One of the positives that have come out of quarantine are the opportunities that I've discovered while doing hours of online researching. I am an aspiring wildlife biologist and have been quite discouraged when finding out how competitive the job market is for people in the wildlife conservation sector. I found myself listening to stories of countless people struggling to find jobs due to their lack of experience. Though it can be discouraging at times to hear about the struggles one must face in order to achieve your dream career, it will inspire you to work harder to prepare yourself to work in such a competitive field.

Many jobs tend to be seasonal and require travelling to remote places, which is an incredible opportunity, however it may cost more than the amount you're paid. This means travelling to another region of the world to study animals which sounds like a dream, however when it comes down to expenses, it's not an ideal lifestyle. Hours are long, pay is low, and experience is essential. There have also been countless volunteer opportunities that also include these difficult terms. However, after hours of research I have been able to find many opportunities that can help people interested in the environmental, wildlife, or conservation field become more active and gain some experiences. Some volunteer programs that may help you get your foot in the door!

This blog series will document my journey into the wildlife biology field, highlighting ways those interested in conservation can get involved. Whether you are a fellow aspiring biologist, student, or an older conservationist there are always opportunities ahead. The biggest challenge you face is finding them. But I'm here to help!
